Auction Records of the Gan Eden 1990... shows it to be a great investment wine!
!...From $6.00 to over $100/bottle...WHY?
I
This Wine went through the roof in price. In the early nineties it was as low as $6.00 per bottle and a glass of wine was $1.50. The Chicago Wine Auction House sold some for $65.00/bottle in the late nineties. The auctions at the Desmond Hotel in Albany New York sold some for $75.00 per bottle. The most recent auction record at the NYIT GOLD COAST CLASSIC held atRainbow Room in NYC in 2006 . This case of wine went for over $100.00 per bottle. Here is what the wine expert from the Quarterly Review of Wines said about this wine in the auction catalog:
In a sign of America's rising level of sophistication, wine drinkers have to embrace the idea that kosher wines can hold their own with the great dry wines of the world. This bottling hails from Gan Eden (named after the Garden of Eden), a true hands-on producer in Sonoma. The 1990 Gan Eden Cabernet was ahead of its time in that winemaker Craig Winchell blended fruit from two distinct regions--Alexander Valley and Mendocino County--a practice which is just now gaining traction among other producers in California's North Coast.
Why the combo?
Because he knew these were the best Cabernet grapes of the vintage, full of ripe berry fruit and sturdy tannins. This case will provide years of pleasure as you discover the way the fruit and oak in the wine have integrated, and the once prominent tannins are now a virtual backdrop for the wine's evolving complexity.
One case Estimate: $1,080-$1800
More on the Gan Eden Cabernet Sauvignon 1990
The 1990 GAN EDEN Cabernet Sauvignon was produced from grapes grown on the Gauer Estate in the Alexander Valley, and Brutocao Vineyards, near Hopland in Mendocino County.
Departing from our normal practice of 100% varietal Cabernets, this wine includes around 10% Petite Sirah, not to improve the color, but because this Petite Sirah was so complementary in flavor characteristics. This 1990 vintage is elegant and full flavored, with bright currant, cherry and plum fruit and rich oak.
The area from which the Alexander Valley grapes were harvested, high above the valley floor, offers an excellent microclimate for relatively cool, dry and sunny weather which almost always produces grapes of concentrated, mouth filling flavor, while the area around Hopland produces Cabernet Sauvignon with a wide range of fruit flavors. The Petite Sirah contributes power, richness, and a black pepper character to the blend. The resulting fruit, culminated in a finely honed wine exhibiting rich body, complex fruit characteristics such as currant, black pepper and licorice, and beautifully incorporated oak. The Wine Enthusiast called it "an intriguing style". The 1990 has received numerous medals since its release, including its most recent, Silver in the 2001 California State Fair Wine Competition. The 1990 for California Cabernet is considered the Best Year of the Century for California's Cabernet grapes! This wine has alot of sediment and it is so rich, and ready to drink right now!

The storage history of this wine is impeccible. It came from the California winery to New York via a temperature controlled and air ride carrier, and it was/and is stored in a Cave where the rarest of wines in the world are stored--truly a rare great cabernet sauvignon!
The 1994 GAN EDEN Chardonnay was produced mainly from grapes grown at Black Mountain Vineyards in the Alexander Valley, and at Poplar Vineyards in the Green Valley of Sonoma County. This is the sixth vintage to use Black Mountain grapes, in order to continue a continuity of style.
The 1994 Chardonnay emphasizes abundant peach and pear fruit, with oak used only as an essential seasoning component. Balance between the acid and fruit componenets produces a superb mouth feel and a long, smooth finish. This is a wine which can truly complement a wide spectrum of foods. It is perfect to drink now!
The grapes for this wine were harvested at an average of 24°Brix. Oak aged on lees for 7 mont4hs, the resulting wine exhibits fruit, acidity, oak and yeast flavors producing a well balanced, richly styled wine excellent when consumed by itself or with food. The 1994 has received numerous medals, including its most recent, a Bronze in the 2001 California State Fair Wine Competition. In Oz Clarke's book he say this 1994 was an outstanding year for chardonnay grapes in California and the wine is perfect for driinking now in 2002!

This 1995 GAN EDEN Sauvignon Blanc was produced from Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown in two vineyards, one in St. Helena in the Napa Valley and one in Lake County, both areas known for the quality of their Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Additionally, 5% Semillon grown at the famed Wente Vineyards in Livermore, and 20% Chardonnay from Poplar Vineyards in sonoma County's Green Valley went into the blend.
The 1995 Sauvignon Blanc emphasizes balance, which has not been compromised by time, The herbal quality of the Sauvignon Blanc grapes is balanced by the rich fruit component prevalent in the Semillon. The more neutral Chardonnay, with its excellent mouth feel helps to decrease the weedy edge so often found in Sauvignon Blanc wines. Acidity plays a key role in this, like the vast majority of GAN EDEN wines, making this a truly refreshing and versatile beverage for table use, while the complex components and roundness of this wine make this a superb drink by itself, perhaps as an aperitif.
All of the grapes were harvested around 23 degrees Brix. The wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks, and remained on yeast for 5 months. Malolactic fermentation was not performed. This wine contains less than 0.2% residual sugar. It won several medals, including a gold in 1998 in San Diego.
